Things to Do in Cass City This Fall | September & October 2026

There comes a point when we all need a reason to get out of the house.

Maybe you've fallen into the routine of work, home, dinner, television and doing it all again tomorrow. Maybe the kids need something different. Maybe you're new to the area. Or maybe you've simply gotten comfortable staying home and the thought of walking into an event where you don't know everyone feels a little intimidating.

That's one reason I'm putting together this guide to things to do in Cass City this fall.

Not because I think everyone needs a packed social calendar. I don't. Sometimes we just need one reason to put on real clothes, call a friend, get in the car and go do something.

And it turns out that connection matters to our health, too.

Getting Out Is Good for Us

We talk a lot about eating better and exercising when we talk about health. We don't talk nearly enough about connection.

The National Institutes of Health says positive social habits can help us build support systems and stay healthier mentally and physically. Research also links social connection with better health and longevity, while the U.S. Surgeon General has identified loneliness and social isolation as significant public-health concerns. (National Institutes of Health)

That doesn't mean you need to become the most social person in Cass City.

It can be as simple as taking an art class. Walking around a festival. Meeting a friend for coffee. Riding your bicycle dressed as a witch. Taking the grandkids somewhere new. Or finally saying yes when someone asks, “Do you want to go?”

And if you've been looking for things to do in Cass City this fall, there are some pretty good excuses coming up.

Colorful stacked glass art made from vintage plates displayed in a sunny garden setting, promoting creativity, connection and confidence through a welcoming community art class.
Sometimes confidence doesn’t come before we leave the house. Sometimes we build it because we left. Get out, make something beautiful, meet a few new people, and give yourself a reason to try something different. Stacked glass art is about more than creating—it’s about connection, creativity and feeling good about showing up.

Make Something: Stacked Glass Art Class | October 1

One of the easiest ways to get yourself out and around people is to have something to do when you get there.

That's why I love creative classes.

On Thursday, October 1 at 4:30 PM, Debbie Soltis will be teaching a stacked glass art class at the Northwood Lake pavilion. The class is $25, and you'll create your own decorative piece using stacked glass plates.

You don't have to be an artist. You don't have to arrive knowing everybody. And you definitely don't have to be good at making small talk for two hours.

You have a project sitting in front of you.

That's exactly the kind of environment that can make trying something new feel a little easier.

Sometimes confidence doesn't come before we leave the house. Sometimes we build confidence because we left.

Make a Day of the Tuscola County Pumpkin Festival | October 1–4

While you're looking for things to do in Cass City this fall, don't forget that Caro is right down the road.

The Tuscola County Pumpkin Festival runs October 1–4 in downtown Caro, and this one is especially easy to turn into a family day.

The 2026 festival includes decorated pumpkins, food trucks, music, contests and activities throughout the weekend. Saturday brings the downtown car show along with free children's activities at the fairgrounds, including a petting zoo, pony rides, games, face painting and more. The festival wraps up Sunday with the Grand Parade. Go for an hour. Stay all afternoon.

And while your here in town, as about a fun family photo session with the fall colors at Beechwood Photography.

A cheerful red Pomeranian dressed as a boy warlock in an elaborate pink and burgundy wizard costume sits on a small-town downtown sidewalk during a fall community event. He wears a pointed wizard hat decorated with gold stars and a crescent moon and holds a magical staff topped with a pink jewel. A pink trick-or-treat pumpkin filled with candy sits beside him. Pink pumpkins, breast cancer awareness ribbons, fall mums, autumn leaves and decorated storefronts line the street, while families and trick-or-treaters gather in the softly blurred background. The warm, inviting scene represents Pink or Treat, community connection, getting out of the house, trying something fun and building social confidence.
Get out. Have fun. Build confidence. 💗

Put on Some Pink: Pink or Treat | October 15

On Thursday, October 15 from 5–7 PM, downtown Cass City turns pink for the annual Pink or Treat.

Hosted by the Cass City Chamber of Commerce, Pink or Treat combines Halloween fun with breast cancer awareness. Families can dress up and make their way through downtown while participating businesses and organizations hand out treats and goodies. (Cass City Chamber Michigan)

This is one of my favorite kinds of community events because you're not walking into a room and being expected to introduce yourself.

You're just out.

You're walking. You're seeing people. You're talking to business owners. The kids are occupied. You're bumping into someone you haven't seen lately.

For someone trying to rebuild a little social confidence, events like this can be an easy place to start.

That's part of what I want this guide to things to do in Cass City this fall to be about: not simply where to go, but giving yourself permission to go.

Yes, We're Riding Bicycles Dressed as Witches | October 31

And then there's this.

On Halloween morning at 9:00 AM, we're having the Cass City Witches Ride.

Yes. Witches.

On bicycles.

At nine in the morning.

And that's exactly why I love it.

Decorate your bike, put together your witchiest outfit and come ride through Cass City with us. We're intentionally keeping this first ride small, with registration limited to 25 riders, and the $25 registration includes prizes and our riders-only Witches Brew Social afterward (coffee, tea, snacks) plus a 2026 Witches Ride Souvenir.

There's even an instant camera prize from Clean Camera!

You don't have to be athletic. You don't need an elaborate costume. And you certainly don't need to take yourself too seriously.

You just need to show up.

What If You Don't Know Anyone?

Come anyway.

I think this is important enough to say because we sometimes advertise community events as though everybody has a ready-made group of six girlfriends waiting to go everywhere together.

That's not real life.

People move. Relationships change. Kids grow up. People retire. We lose spouses and friends. We work from home. Sometimes we simply get out of the habit of going places.

The National Institute on Aging specifically recommends activities such as taking a class, restarting an old hobby and finding activities with people who share your interests as ways of staying connected. (National Institute on Aging)

So when you're searching for things to do in Cass City this fall, don't automatically rule something out because you don't have someone to go with.

Go for thirty minutes.

Say hello to one person.

Take the class.

Walk through the festival.

Try the ridiculous witch hat.

Confidence grows through doing things that once felt uncomfortable.

Come for Something. Discover Something Else.

This is really what Worth the Trip is about.

I don't want you to drive into Cass City, attend one event and immediately drive home.

If you're coming, look around.

Grab a coffee. Have lunch. Walk into a shop you've never visited. Drive somewhere you haven't been. Bring your camera. Meet somebody. Find something that makes you say, “I didn't know this was here.”

And if Cass City is already home, explore it like it isn't.

Sometimes we spend so much time looking for somewhere to go that we forget there are experiences happening twenty minutes from our own front door.

That's why I'll keep updating things to do in Cass City this fall and throughout Michigan's Thumb as I find experiences genuinely worth leaving the house for.

A lighthouse stands in the background near the blue water, while a rustic wooden directional sign highlights small towns, big skies, beautiful water, unique events, local flavor and friendly faces. The graphic reads “Why Visit Michigan’s Thumb? See Why It’s Worth the Trip” and encourages visitors to explore local communities, attend events, support small businesses, experience Michigan’s Thumb and make memories along the way.

Your Challenge This Fall

Pick one.

Not ten events. Not every weekend.

One.

Choose something you normally wouldn't do and go.

Bring your spouse. Call your mom. Take the grandkids. Invite the new neighbor. Text the friend you've been saying you need to get together with for six months.

Or come by yourself.

Because the goal isn't really filling your calendar.

It's getting out, connecting, experiencing something different and maybe building a little more confidence along the way.

Find something worth the trip. Then go.
